# Title Airdate
002 “Free at Last” March 4th, 2011
On the heels of their meeting with Ra’s al Ghul, Dominique Dane, Steven Kyle & Virgil Black have to set aside their differences to finish the investigation GCPD has filed as closed. TO make matters worse it’s only a matter of days before Killer Croc is transferred from Blackgate Penitentiary to Arkham Asylum and everyone is on high alert to ensure he doesn’t escape. ( See More)

Opening Scene

The camera fades in on another night in Gotham City. The moon peeks out behind the clouds, the very clouds that used to carry a shining light of hope. The 1950’s art deco buildings, topped with their Gothic gargoyles, loom over the decaying fringes that seem to grow thicker every day. Rain patters down on the streets drowning down, but not out, the sound of traffic.

A quick fade transitions our scene from the landscape of Gotham City to the exterior of Blackgate Penitentiary The large steel gates start grinding open as the motors struggle to pull the maximum security gates back. A massive figure is silhouetted in the Gotham night, and he just stands there until the gates are fully opened. He takes a few steps towards the camera and the gates start their laborious journey closed. Lighining cracks and for a half second the man is illuminated. His skin, a mess of green scales, gives him away. Killer Croc smiles at the Gotham night and says, “Not a moment too soon. I’m finally free.”

Title Screen

The title card comes up, a broken, rusted, and bloody Batarang in center screen with the words “Gotham Nights” written in the lower right corner. A scrolling shot along a wall features news articles from the last year. Light shines across select headlines “BANE BREAKS BAT!” with the accompanying picture of Batman laying broken in Gotham Square. “ROBIN CONFIRMED DEAD!” with a distance shot of a funeral procession including Batman, Superman, and other notable heroes. “JOKER SHOOTS BATGIRL!” with a picture of a masked woman laying in a hospital bed. The scroll picks up but other headlines can still be seen, “HAS WONDER WOMAN ABANDONED EARTH?”, “SUPERMAN DEAD”, “WHERE IS THE GREEN LANTERN?”, and “GREEN ARROW RETURNED TO METROPOLIS!” The screen fades to black and the episode title fades in, “Free at Last”

The Offer

  • Where: An old Bank Vault, former League of Shadows stronghold.
  • When: Sunday Night
  • Who: Virgil Black, Dominique Dane, Steven Kyle, Darren Spektor & Ra’s al Ghul
  • Why: Ra’s makes his offer to the characters.

The camera fades in on the scene we left off with last week. Virgil Black, Dominique Dane, Steven Kyle, and Darren Spektor are standing in an abandoned bank vault speaking with a man who introduced himself as Ra’s al Ghul.

Ra’s will open the show with a conflict. He’ll roll Love (Only with allies can one succeed) plus each characters relationship (see chart below) plus Mastermind plus the Gotham LS\SA HQ against each individual. Make the rolls, set the TN, then read the following dialog.

Lead Relationship Value + Asset + Resource Dice Pool
Darren Spektor d8 + d6 + d8 + 2d12 = 1d6+2d8+2d12
Steven Kyle d8 + d6 + d8 + 2d12 = 1d6+2d8+2d12
Virgil Black d8 + d6 + d8 + 2d12 = 1d6+2d8+2d12
Alexander Anderson d8 + d6 + d8 + 2d12 = 1d6+2d8+2d12
Dominique Dane d10 + d6 + d8 + 2d12 = 1d6+1d8+1d10+2d12

Ra’s Special Abilities:

  • Give a Plot Point to Gain a d8 Relationship for one scene with a Feature with whom you don’t already have a Relationship.
  • Give a Plot Point to Reroll a die in a Contest with someone you’ve been manipulating.

“Gentlemen. Lady. My name is Ra’s al Ghul and I apologize for the farce but it was the only way I could get all of you here tonight. I have an offer to make you, and all other vigilantes in Gotham City. Unarguably the largest problem Gotham City has is Bane. Without Batman and Robin to stop him I fear that Gotham City will rot and fester under his reign. I would like to empower you to challenge and eliminate the Bane threat to Gotham City. If you are interested in taking down Bane than I suggest you look into the disappearance of Man-O-War first. My sources indicate that he was captured by Abattoir but where he is being held is unknown. I imagine that your time is running out. If you save Man-O-War in time and are interested in working towards the elimination of Bane than bring him back here and we can discuss the next step. I must adjourn now. You will find a small form of payment in the lobby. Consider it a thank you for meeting with me tonight.”

Ra’s goal is to get the characters to begin working with him against Bane. Ask anyone if they are going to React to Ra’s initial roll or simply Give In and go looking for Man-O-War.

Ra’s Special Abilities:

  • Claim a Plot Point and Give your opposition a d6 when you ask them to trust you, even if you don’t mean it.

After the conflict, Ra’s vanishes again. Outside there are open boxes labeled with everyone’s hero name. The contents of the boxes are as follows:

  • Singularity: A glass box holding a small flying scorpion-like creature.
  • Nighthawk: A single canister of Joker Gas.
  • The Specter: A list of alternative entrances to various gang-hide outs around the Narrows.

The Singularity and Abattoir

  • Where: The backroom of ElectroCity
  • When: Monday Night
  • Who: Nighthawk & Singularity
  • Why: Relationship Strain

[GM Improve Scene]

The group has just finished going over what they know of Abattoir, which sadly wasn’t much, but it was The Specter who had the final piece of the puzzle. Knowing that Abattoir only targeted his family, thanks to the information Singularity received from GCPD, along with the true identity of Abattoir, thanks to the clues Nighthawk found at the scene of his final victum, reminded the Specter of an old apartment complex. The complex, now abandoned, was once the childhood home of the Etchisons. Without any other clues, this is the only place they know that Abattoir could have stashed his victim.

Calliope helps the team work through the information but excuses herself from the actual rescue. She says she has other matters to attend to. The Specter leaves to go prep for his mission, leaving Nighthawk and Singularity alone together. Singularity is curious about Nighhawk’s motives for helping the team in the first place, and wants some answers.

Rescue of Man-O-War

  • Where: Abattoir’s Den
  • When: Monday Night
  • Who: Adam Arthur, Darren Spektor, Steven Kyle, & Virgil Black
  • Why: To return Man-O-War to the game

The camera cuts to a small unfurnished room. Inside, strapped to a table, lies Man-O-War. A series of blade are connected to a series of pulleys that respond to the slightest jostle and dig into Man-O-War’s flesh. Some of the blades have already been set in motion and the elaborate machine he’s strapped to has already taken it’s toll on him.

The machine is a d10 Useful Detail that the Trouble Pool can use to harm Man-O-War. The machine wants to cause Injury but Man-O-War can oppose to become Exhausted or Afraid. If Man-O-War simply Gives In he takes a d10 Injured but depending on how he resists he can come away with dice in Exhausted or Afraid. After the contest cut to the next scene.

The camera cuts to an alleyway where the Specter, Nighthawk, & the Singularity have gathered.

Getting inside isn’t an issue, but defeating the contraption is. Since it’s wired to Man-O-War the contest uses his stats. It uses his highest Value (d10) plus the relationship with whomever is attempting to disarm the machine. The Machine simply wants to hurt Man-O-War more, so failure means he takes more Injured Stress. (Either a d10 or a step up) This also means whomever it attempting to disarm the machine can take stress and multiple failures can leave Man-O-War disfigured or dying.

A Hero or Villain?

  • Where: The Narrows
  • When: Late Monday Night
  • Who: Specter & Nighthawk
  • Why: Relationship Strain:

[GM Improve Scene]

As Virgil leaves to take Man-O-War to the hospital the Specter is curious about Nighhawk’s motives for helping the team in the first place, and wants some answers.

Killer Croc Attack

  • Where: Downtown Loft
  • When: Late Monday Night
  • Who: Virgil Black & Killer Croc
  • Why: Introduce Killer Croc, set his feud with Virgil and Adam in motion.

The camera fades in on Virgil sitting on the sofa in the Downtown Loft. Adam is being kept overnight at Gotham General to see to his wounds. He’s dozing off when a guttural growl rumbles through the apartment. Black hops to his feet just in time for something to come crashing through the front door! As the dust settles a large, muscular, and scaly man smiles at him with wicked sharp teeth. “I’ve got a score to settle with you two.” Killer Croc says as he lunges to attack Virgil.

Croc wants to take out Virgil. Simple fight scene. Go. In the end, Croc jumps out a window and escapes into the night when he realizes Adam isn’t there. He yells something about coming back later to finish the two off.

The Next Ra’s Meeting

  • Where: Abandoned Bank Vault
  • When: Tuesday Night
  • Who: Adam Arthur, Darren Spektor, Steven Kyle, & Virgil Black
  • Why: Introduce Man-O-War to Ra’s and allow the League to help with Croc

The camera fades in on the old bank as Singularity and Man-O-War arrive. The Specter and Nighthawk are already inside waiting for them and the group heads into the old bank vault together to speak with Ra’s.

Again Ra’s rolls Love (d6) plus his relationship with Adam Arthur (d8) plus Mastermind (d8) plus the Gotham LS\SA HQ (2d12). Make the rolls, set the TN, and let Adam Arthur roll for his decision.

Ra’s Special Abilities:

  • Give a Plot Point to Gain a d8 Relationship for one scene with a Feature with whom you don’t already have a Relationship.
  • Give a Plot Point to Reroll a die in a Contest with someone you’ve been manipulating.

Ra’s Special Abilities:

  • Claim a Plot Point and Give your opposition a d6 when you ask them to trust you, even if you don’t mean it.

After this Ra’s will begin talking about taking down Bane by taking out his Lieutenants unless someone mentions Killer Croc. Ra’s first target is Roman Sionis, also known as Black Mask. Roman runs protection and gun smuggling in Burnley, with Bane’s backing he’s started stepping into international arms dealing. Without Black Mask Bane’s goons loose their weapons. A natural first target. Ra’s will than turn over a disk with intel on Roman to the group.

If the group mentions Killer Croc, Ra’s will shift focus to help them. He’s make a phone call to his daughter and request the files on Waylon Jones. He’ll tell the group that he’ll have information for them by tomorrow.

After that Ra’s adjourns the meeting.

Trusting in the Shadows

  • Where: On the way home from the Bank
  • When: Tuesday Night
  • Who: Adam Arthur & Virgil Black
  • Why: Relationship Strain

Teaming up is everything Adam wants, but Virgil thinks he’s too trusting of the whole situation.

Finding the Croc

  • Where: Montage
  • When: Tuesday Night – Thursday Night
  • Who: Adam Arthur, Darren Spektor, Steven Kyle, & Virgil Black
  • Why: Establish facts and fill time between Croc’s attack and his final showdown
  • IF: Talia delivers a fact sheet that fills in the following
    • Croc is primarily motivated by his reputation, he wants people to know and fear the Killer Croc.
    • He holds a massive grudge against a local carnival in Gotham.
    • He operates, primarily, out of sewers around Gotham.
  • Other Facts
    • Croc has been trying to get ahold of his old partner The Riddler.
    • Croc blames Man-O-War and The Singularity for his incarceration.
    • Croc wants to see The Specter dead.
    • Croc is operating out of the Narrows, and The Specter knows where he would be hiding.

A Croc in the Narrows

  • Where: ElectroCity
  • When: Tuesday Night – Thursday Night
  • Who: Man-O-War & Specter
  • Why: Relationship Strain:

The final clue comes with the Specter’s knowledge of the Narrows – making Man-O-War question his work in the Narrows.

Showdown with a Killer

  • Where: Where ever the team decided to confront Croc
  • When: Friday Night
  • Who: Adam Arthur, Darren Spektor, Steven Kyle, & Virgil Black
  • Why: Remove the threat of Killer Croc

Again, setup a fight scene and let Croc do his thing.

Working with the Enemy

  • Where: ElectroCity afterhours
  • When: Saturday Morning
  • Who: Adam Arthur, Darren Spektor, Steven Kyle, Virgil Black, & Oracle
  • Why: Provide a second source of information that’s not the League

The camera fades in on the team in the backroom of ElectroCity, seeing to their injuries and recovering from their fight with Killer Croc.

Allow some Stress Relief, then in the middle drop this.

Oracle The computer in the backroom kicks itself out of Sleep mode and the screen flickers. The logo to the right fills the screen and all inputs become unresponsive. Then a digitized voice plays over the speakers.
_I worry about the company you keep. Ra’s al Ghul was the man responsible for the death of Robin. I’ve enclosed The Batman’s files on this incident within this transmission, you can access them via this machine. _
A small file logo pixelates into view in the corner “A_Death_in_the_Family.txt”
I have been impressed with your work handling Killer Croc. If you continue to help clean up Gotham I’ll continue to feed you intel like this. Trust no one. Oracle Transmission Terminated.

The file details how Ra’s al Ghul hired the Joker to help him with a terrorist scheme to cripple the world economy by destroying financial districts in Europe.. The Clown Prince of Crime kidnapped Robin and in a warehouse in Sarajevo, Bosnia, the Joker beats Robin with a crowbar, ultimately leaving him half-dead on the warehouse floor. The Batman arrived too late, and Robin was killed in the explosion.

The file has details that were never released to the media, details that only The Batman could have known…
